What is fat transfer/fat grafting?
This treatment, sometimes known as “autologous fat transplantation” or “micro-lipoinjection,” is a popular treatment offered with Dr. Homayoun Sasson. During this treatment, fat cells are harvested from other areas of the body, such as the stomach, buttocks, or thighs, and then are reinjected in the face to fill in sunken cheeks or address line and wrinkles. It may be used to address skin depressions, acne scarring, thin lips, or minimize the appearance of forehead wrinkles. Because the fat cells harvested are from the patient’s own body, there are no concerns with allergic reactions and minimal risk of infection.
What to expect after fat grafting
After a patient has had this procedure done, they may want to learn how quickly they can return to their normal routine. While there may be a brief recovery period of a few days with redness and bruising, most patients are able to resume work, school, and other activities quickly. Some patients take extra time of off social activities or work because of the swelling or bruising that may occur. Fortunately, results from this procedure last a year or longer for a majority of patients, ensuring long-lasting improvements with just one treatment. Many other alternative services, such as cosmetic dermal fillers and neuromodulator injections, often do not achieve results that last as long as those achieved with fat grafting and transfers.
